Dear Lourdes Parishioners,
We want to make you aware of an increase in email and text message scams that are currently targeting churches and faith communities.
Scammers are impersonating clergy and parish staff—often claiming to be the priest or another member of our team—and asking for money, gift cards, or other forms of payment for an urgent or emergency situation. These messages often include promises to repay you later. Please know that these requests are not legitimate.
If you receive an email or text message claiming to be from one of our priests or parish staff requesting money, gift cards, or favors:
- Do not respond
- Do not click any links
- Delete the message immediately
Always carefully check the sender’s email address. All official Lourdes parish emails end with @
ourladyoflourdescc.org, or
mail@flocknote.com such as the OLL Invitations or OLL News bulk emails sent via Flocknotes. Messages sent from personal email accounts, unfamiliar phone numbers, or addresses that look similar but slightly altered are strong indicators of a scam.
As scammers become increasingly sophisticated, messages may sound personal, urgent, or even caring. When in doubt, pause and verify before taking any action. Parish staff will never request money, gift cards, or emergency assistance through email or text message.
If you are unsure about a message you’ve received, please contact the parish office directly using the phone number or email listed on our official website.
Thank you for your vigilance and for helping protect our parish community.
In Christ,
Adrianne
