A Place at the Table
is a stylish, two-story downtown restaurant (at 300 West Hargett Street) where you pay what you can. You can eat and volunteer to pay for it, or you can eat and pay for it, or you can donate money for someone to eat for free later.
Many homeless are welcomed and fed. In 2019 so far, 6,708 meals were given to the poor, and 27,662 total meals were served year to date. On 1Day4Him, ten volunteers from Lourdes, five adults and five students, came to help wash dishes, bus tables, set up tables, and run food and drinks to customers. Seven of the ten volunteers had never been to the restaurant before. One of the first-timers Tommy Kuppinen said, "It is great that anyone can come in here and eat. They have great service, and it is a good place." Many customers enjoyed lattes, waffles, and homemade berry pastries. The food is highly recommended, and volunteering at this location is fun and uplifting. Maggie Kane is the director.
